MacKenzie Scott, the second richest woman in the world announced on Medium (via Twitter) that she has donated $1.7 million to various causes and institutions.
After her divorce with Jeff Bezos, Scott signed "The Giving Pledge" which is campaign of wealthy people committing to giving away a substantial amount of their fortunes to charity.
In her Medium post, she listed the organizations she donated money to which include racial equality, global development, public health, empathy & bridging divides and economic mobility.
On Twitter she said, "Following up on the commitment I made last year to give away the majority of my wealth in my lifetime: bit.ly/3f8xSVO. (Note my Medium account is under my new last name -- changed back to middle name I grew up with, after my grandfather Scott.)"
Scott married Bezos a year before he founded Amazon and was one of the company's first employees. She was received a stake of 4 percent after their break up.
Three HBCU schools (Howard University, Xavier University of Louisiana and Hampton University) were among the beneficiaries.
