In an open letter published by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, there will be no preseason games this year.
"The NFL in 2020 will not look like other years.....Players and coaches will be tested for the virus regularly, including every day for a while. Preseason games have been canceled.", Goodell wrote.
While the NFL season is set to begin in September, the coronavirus pandemic has affected the league greatly as the draft was held virtually to combat the spread of the virus and many teams have also announced that fan attendance will be limited for the 2020 season.
As the resumption of sports have happened in Asia and Europe, the virus has been more contained in those leagues than the United States. No team sports has started in America without new cases.
Despite the status of other sports, Goodell still sees hope. "In a year that has been extraordinarily difficult for our country and the world, we hope the energy of this moment will provide some much-needed optimism,", he said.
