On This Day in 1966, England defeated Germany in Wembley Stadium, London, England to capture the 1966 World Cup Trophy. It was their first and so far only World Cup final win, only international title and sole time they hosted World Cup.

Striker Geoff Hurst led the way with a hat-trick as The Three Lions beat Germany 4-2 in extra time with nearly 97,000 people in attendance and over 32 million British TV viewers. It is still the only time a player has scored 3 goals in a World Cup Final.
