As the citizens of Lebanon continue to grow in frustration and anger, Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced on Monday evening that he and his entire government are resigning.

"They knew that we pose a threat to them, and that the success of this government means a real change in this long-ruling class whose corruption has asphyxiated the country," he added.⁣

Many people have accused the country's leaders of negligence and corruption over the years as protesters continue to take to the streets and clash with police.⁣

Mr Diab went on to say, "Today we follow the will of the people in their demand to hold accountable those responsible for the disaster that has been in hiding for seven years, and their desire for real change."⁣

Lebanon's President Michael Auon accepted the departure of the Prime Minister's government and asked for patience as a new cabinet is created.

It has been a week since the Port of Beirut explosion that injured thousands and killed over 200 people.
