President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa helped rescue two women at the Algarve Beach, who had been swept of their kayak.
"As there is a very large west current, they were dragged out, turned around, swallowed a lot of water and were not even able to turn [the kayak], nor to climb [on it], or swim, such is the strength of the current," the president told the local media.
While President Sousa was swimming over to assist, a man was there trying to turn the kayak back over. A person on a jet ski then helped return the kayak back to the shores.
President Sousa is currently on vacation at the Algarve Beach to promote tourism.
