If Uber is forced to classify their drivers as employees, the company will temporarily shut down operations in California, according to CEO Dana Khosrowshahi.

This comes days after a San Francisco Judge ruled that Uber and Lyft must hail their drivers as employees instead of independent contractors. The change guarantees them benefits like sick days, expense reimbursement and overtime.

On Monday, Uber and Lyft said they would immediately appeal to a higher court. If Uber doesn't win the appeal, Khosrowshahi said the halt of services could last until November.
