On This Day In 1952, the 1,000,000th Jeep was produced.
The Jeep was produced by the Willys-Overland company.
The name "Jeep" comes from the United States Army request for manufacturers to develop a General Purpose vehicle.
A derivation of the General Purpose initials was used to identify the car by calling in a "Gee Pee".
That somehow turned into "Jeep".
