On This Day In 1973, Martin Cooper made the world's first mobile phone call in Manhattan from the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. after he assembled a team to help create it.
Cooper dialed the number of his Joel S. Engel, his main competitor from AT &T. He would say "Joel, this is Marty. I'm calling you from a cell phone, a real handheld portable cell phone."
