On This Day In 1819: Bicycles Were First Seen In New York City.

They were intially known as "velocipedes" and "swift walkers" after being created by Baron Karl von Drais. After making it's appearance, there were only 100 available in the city causing people to fight over them.

Some time later, the swift walkers were banned in New York City.
