On This Day In 1973: The First U.S. Space Station 'Skylab' Launches

 

This is the 'Skylab' orbiting over earth on February 8th, 1974.

On This Day In 1973, the first United States Space Station called the 'Skylab' launched into the earth's orbit. The intentions of this project was to study the sun, search for resources that benefit the planet and understand human's adaptations to the space atmosphere.

It was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and was in orbit for 2249 days with three separate astronaut crews operating the space station for 171 days.
