On This Day In 1995, the Sega Saturn was released as a successor to the Sega Genesis.

The Saturn is held in decent regard for the variety of popular games it produced but ultimately was drowned out of high competition with the 1996 release of Nintendo 64 and no Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Sega would go after commercial excellence in 1998 with Dreamcast.
