The Buccaneers opened their season on road in 2003 as defending Super Bowl champions.

Eight months earlier, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led by their all time legendary defense completely stifled the Philadelphia Eagles in a 27-10 victory in the NFC Championship.
It would be the last game at the Eagles's Veteran Stadium where they played for 31 years. To kick-off the 2003 NFL season, the defending champion Buccaneers would once again pay a visit to Philadelphia as the Eagles would host their first game at the new Lincoln Financial Field stadium.
New season. New stadium. Same teams. Same result.
The Eagles could not even muster a single point as loud boos rang out from fans in a 17-0 Bucs win.
In the heat of that Week 1 season, one would have thought that Tampa Bay would continue on their reign of dominance throughout the 2003 season but that was not the case at all.
Over the next 17 seasons, they would only make two playoff appearances and the 2003 season was certainly not one of them.
As for the Eagles, they knocked on the door again for a chance at the Super Bowl.
Their perseverance was awarded soon.
