Rudy Bridges escorted by U.S Marshalls as she made history. (c)Today |
Civil Rights Pioneer Ruby Bridges turns 67 years old today.
In 1960, Bridges, at 6 years old, was the first Black child to integrate into an all-White school in the south of the United States.
Bridges desegregated William Franz Elementary School in Louisiana after being 1 of 6 Black children in New Orleans to pass a test which determined what school they would attend.
As the United States Marshall were in charge of her safety, they only allowed her to eat food that she brought from home.
We wish Ruby Bridges a wonderful birthday.
