The body of Civil Rights Icon John Lewis was carried over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama for the final time.

Lewis is known for the planning of a peaceful protest on March 7th, 1965, which led to Alabama State Troopers attacking and beating them as they marched over the bridge.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday. John Lewis passed away at 80 years old on July 17th.
