Happy Independence Day Burkina Faso!


Burkina Faso turns 60

The Republic of Upper Volta gained its Independence from France on August 5th, 1960. Maurice Yameogo was the country's the first president from 1960 to 1966.

On August 4th, 1984, President Sankara changed the country's name from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso meaning "Land of the Honest People".
