President Geingob was not impressed with the offer

From 1904 to 1908 German troops killed tens and thousands of Herero and Nama people in response to anti-colonial uprising. Only recently in 2015 did Germany and Namibia begin negotiations over reparations.

According to The Namibian Reports, an offer of 10 million euros was rejected earlier this year. In June, Germany agreed to apologise but is yet to formally do so.

In a statement, Namibia's President Hage Geingob said the offer for reparations made by Germany for mass killings in its then colony was "not acceptable".

"While the Namibian Government agreed to negotiate the issue of redress (reparation) which the German Government consistently referred to as 'healing the wounds', Germany has declined to accept the term 'reparations'."

It is thought that 75% of the Herero population and half of the Nama population died during the time.
