In a deal between the Yum Brands and NPC International, Pizza Hut will be closing 300 of its restaurants. NPC will also be putting up 927 Pizza Hut diners for sale.
“In the event NPC executes a sale of its Pizza Hut business, Pizza Hut’s focus would be to ensure that new ownership brings to NPC’s Pizza Hut restaurants a strong capital structure, healthy balance sheet, commitment to operational excellence, and a growth mindset,” a Pizza Hut spokesperson said in a statement to CNBC.
The NPC franchisee, who also operates 400 Wendy's restaurants filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July.
In recent times, Pizza Hut sought to draw more pubilicity and attention to takeout and delivery. The coronavirus pandemic operated this ambition as the popular food chain reported its highest average sales a week for delivery and take in the last 8 years in May.
Employees at defunct Pizza Hut restaurants will be moved to better suitable and performing locations.
