The U Experience had ambitions of bringing 150 college students to two "bubble" campuses in Hawaii and Arkansas. They will no longer be moving forward with this plan according to the Business Insider.
In a statement on their website they said, "While we were very excited to work with these incredible hotels, we will be postponing the start date of our program until we are confident that our mission has been communicated transparently to all relevant stakeholders."
Both the Graduate Fayetteville hotel in Arkansas and the Park Shore Waikiki hotel confirmed that they will no longer be participating in this plan as well.
This comes after a very intense backlash from native Hawaiians. A petition called "Stop Bringing Nonresident Students to Hawaii During a Pandemic" got 12,000 signatures.
Many Hawaiians also voiced their frustrations on our August 12th post on Instagram regarding The U Experience's plans.
The Aloha State has grappled with having the highest production rate of coronavirus in America and also has a 14 day mandatory quarantine for anyone entering.
