On This Day In 1885, 200 former African slaves left America for Liberia for liberation.
The American Colonization Society (ACS) helped aid this relocation by empowering Liberia, circulating vital and reliable information and building a school. The leader of the group named William Heard bought land and built the first African Episcopal Mehodist Church in Monrovia, Liberia.
