Illmatic by Nas is regarded by many as the greatest Hip-Hop album ever. The album's appeal captivated many across the globe and gave foreigners an insight into the American experience.

Music Throwback: Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 Perform "Mas Que Nada" On Eartha Kitt's 'Something Special'

 

The breakthrough hit for Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 boosted them to stardom.

Eartha Kitt's 1967 TV special titled 'Something Special' gave the superstar actress yet another opportunity to showcase her dazzling acts and presentation skills.

She also introduced much of the American audience to Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66, whose Bossa Nova and Samba Jazz sound intrigued viewers.

Kitt introduced the band with saying that they would bring "a new look, a new sound, a new approach" to the scene.

Bebe & Cece Winans second album is the award winning self-titled album that peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.

"Love Said Not So" is the 7th track on the album that was written by Bebe Winans and Percy Bady.

Keith Thomas served as the album's producer.

Cece Winans would take home the Grammy for Best Soul Gospel Performance with her singing work on "For Always".

Music Throwback: Girls Tyme on "Star Search'

Girls Tyme formed as a group in 1990.

In 1993, a girls group by the name of 'Girls Tyme' from Houston, Texas appeared on talent show "Star Search" in order to win $100,0000 and display their talents to a nationwide audience.

Beyonce Knowles, LaTavia Roberson, Kelly Rowland, Tamar Davis, Nikki and Nina Taylor hit the mainstream stage for the first time.

By the end of the year, the group changed their end to 'Destiny's Child'.

Earth, Wind & Fire released "September" on November 18th, 1978 as a single. The song was written by Maurice White, Al McKay and Allee Willis, the latter not being a member of the group.⁣

"Jam Master Jay" is the 3rd track on Run D.M.C's first album which is self titled. It was released on March 24th, 1984 and was produced by Larry Smith and Russell Simmons. Both also served as writers along with fellow group member Jason Mizell (DJ Jam Master Jay). 

The album also featured the song "Rock Box" which was the first rap video played on MTV.

Aaliyah's influence is still absolutely worldwide as time approaches the 20 year anniversary of her untimely death. Though she released classics and top-tier music in the 1990's, her star was beginning to shine mighty bright in the early 2000's.

As Aaliyah Dana Houghton's catalog begins to make her way into the ear's of a new generation over the next five months via streaming services, a song by the name of "One In A Million" will be hard to shake.

It is the third track on her second album of the same title which was released almost 25 years ago. Missy Elliot wrote the lyrics and Timbaland did too while also producing.

On this day in 1959, Miles Davis released 'Kind of Blue' after recording it at Columbia's 30th Street Studio (Also known as CBS 30th Street Studio) in New York City.

Miles Davis played the trumpet. John Coltrane and Julian Adderley played the saxophone. Paul Chambers and Jimmy Comb got busy on the bass and drums while both Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly were on the piano.

Blige's version peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 100 in 1992 from her debut album 'What's The 411?'

Her debut album was immediately catapult Blige to the top of the charts and be regarded as one of the best albums of all time.

Music Throwback: "I Will Get There" - Boyz II Men

"I Will Get There" was one of the soundtracks two singles.

"The Prince of Egypt" brought forth a soundtrack that went all the way to number one on Billboard's magazine Top Contemporary Christian Chart as well as #25 on the Billboard 200.

The film's Christian and Biblical story of Exodus and Moses inspired the creation of a song titled "I Will Get There" by Boyz II Men.

It was written by Diane Warren, Stephen Schwartz and produced by Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam and Boyz II Men. Darren Grant directed the music video.

The single peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
