"Puff (The Magic Dragon)" by Peter, Paul and Mary is a song about a dragon written in a poem by Leonard Lipton.
The poem was written in 1959. After discovering the poem, Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul and Mary wrote the song.
The track peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Yarrow and Lipton have repeatedly stated that the song in no way, shape or form has any drug references but rather speaks to a child growing older.
Books and animated TV shows adaptations would later take place in the late 1970's.
