The San Antonio Spurs won their third NBA title 16 years ago after overcoming the defending champion Detroit Pistons in a grueling seven games.

Tim Duncan's averages of 20.6 points, 14.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.1 blocks led him to being named the Finals MVP for the third time however in the gritty 81-74 Spurs win, it was Manu Ginobili who led the charge in the fourth quarter by scoring 11 of the team's 24 points.

Some such as former Spurs assistant coach Mike Budenholzer and General Manager RC Buford have made the case that he was just as deserving of the Finals MVP after averaging 19 points off the bench.
