Iker Casillas joined Real Madrid 30 years ago at the age of nine.

Today, he said goodbye to the game of his youth which ultimately will remember him as a legend. Real Madrid gave a heartfelt statement on their website.

During a 16-year career on the Real Madrid senior squad, Casillas played in 725 matches, won five Spanish La Liga crowns and triumphed 3 times in the UEFA Champions League.

He was also the goalie for one of the greatest national teams in the history of the sport. As captain for Spain, he helped them achieved unprecedented success as they won two European championships and one world cup from 2008-2012.

After joining Porto in 2015, he had to stop playing due to a heart attack while training in April 2019.

On his Twitter account he said, "The important thing is the path you travel and the people who accompany you, not the destination to which it takes you, because that with work and effort, comes alone and I think I can say, without hesitation, that it has been the path and the dream destination."

The International Federation of Football History & Statistics voted Iker Casillas as the 2nd best goalie of the 1st decade of the 21st century and again, number 2 for the best goalie from 1987-2012.
