Virgin Galactic and Rolls-Royce have joined forces to create a plane that could get you from London to New York in two hours. While still looking to send people to space, the spaceflight company has ambitions of moving travellers around the globe as quickly as possible.
This new jet design is a Concorde-Esque Delta-Wing aircraft that will travel at "Mach 3", which is about 2,300 miles per hour or three times the speed of sound. However, it would only have the capacity for 19 people while flying at an altitude of 60,000 feet.
Rolls-Royce hopped on board to design and develop the engine for the high speed commercial aircraft as they are known for these sorts of projects. NASA has also signed a deal with Virgin to advise and be resourceful.
Virgin Galactic is preparing test flights for 2021.
