Chief Executive Carrie Lam said she would invoke emergency powers to postpone the September elections, calling it the "most difficult decision I've made over the past seven months".

"This postponement is entirely made based on public safety reasons, there were no political considerations," she said.

Hong Kong has had more than 100 daily new cases, for 10 days in a row and is experiencing what's been described as a "third wave" of infections.

Lam says she fears Hong Kong's hospitals will be overwhelmed by new cases.

On This Day in 2007: Kevin Garnett Was Traded To Boston Celtics

New era dawns for Celtics after blockbuster trade - The Boston Globe
Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett & Ray Allen were a super team.
(c) Boston Globe

On This Day in 2007, the Boston Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a Blockbuster Trade. This move would help establish the Celtics as a dominant NBA team and help them experience their 17th championship title.

The Boston Celtics finished the 2006-2007 NBA season with a dismal 24-58 record. Their star Paul Pierce was tired of the mediocrity and disaster season. His frustrations were voiced as he felt his time in Boston was up unless they could bring in championship level players. Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge had to act.

In the 2007 NBA Draft, Ainge began to embark on something special. He selected Jeff Green with the 5th pick and immediately moved him to the Seattle Supersonics with Delonte West, Wally Sczcerbiak and a 2008 pick for Glen Davis and lights out shooting guard Ray Allen.

Ray Allen at this time was in his prime as a dominant shooter who could move like the wind and strike from anywhere on the floor with his outstanding shooting touch.

Minnesota's then General Manager Kevin McHale (Retired Celtics player & Ainge's former teammate) agreed in Principle to trade Kevin Garnett to the Celtics for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and two first round draft picks.

At that time, it was the biggest trade in NBA history and it certainly it pay off.

11 months, later the Celtics hoisted their 17th NBA Championship to end the 2007-2008 NBA season after knocking off the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. Garnett won Defensive Player of the Year and along with Pierce and Allen, led Boston to the biggest one-season turnaround in history.

And on that summer championship night in June 2008, Garnett also did this:

The gorilla's name was Rafiki, which means "Friend" in Swahili. He went missing on June 1st and was discovered the next day by a search party, mutilated. The Uganda Wildlife Authority then tracked Byamukama and was arrested days later with hunting devices and pig meat in a nearby village.

Three other men have also been arrested and are now in custody awaiting trial. Byamukama said their intentions were to hunt smaller animals and only killed Rafiki in self defense.

Rafiki was apart of the Nkuringo group of gorillas that are hugely popular live in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. He was believed to be 25 years-old and the leader of 17 gorillas in the group.

Missouri Police Officer Who Killed Mike Brown Will Face No Charges

In a statement, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell said no charges will be filed after a re-investigation into the 2014 shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

"Although this case represents one of the most significant moments in St. Louis' history, the question for this office was a simple one," Bell said. "Could we prove beyond a reasonable doubt that when Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, he committed murder or manslaughter under Missouri law?"

"After an independent and in-depth review of the evidence, we cannot prove that he did," Bell said.

Bell went on to say, "I also want to be clear that our investigation does not exonerate Darren Wilson."

"There are so many points in which Darren Wilson could have handled the situation differently, and if he had, Michael Brown might still be alive."

Read John Lewis' Last Words To The Public

John Lewis, Towering Figure of Civil Rights Era, Dies at 80 - The ...
John Lewis was laid to rest yesterday.
(c) The New York Times

Civil Rights Hero John Lewis sent an essay to the New York Times two days before his death to be published on the day of his funeral.

You can read the essay below.

Credit: John Lewis and The New York Times

"While my time here has now come to an end, I want you to know that in the last days and hours of my life you inspired me. You filled me with hope about the next chapter of the great American story when you used your power to make a difference in our society. Millions of people motivated simply by human compassion laid down the burdens of division. Around the country and the world you set aside race, class, age, language and nationality to demand respect for human dignity.

That is why I had to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, though I was admitted to the hospital the following day. I just had to see and feel it for myself that, after many years of silent witness, the truth is still marching on.

Emmett Till was my George Floyd. He was my Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. He was 14 when he was killed, and I was only 15 years old at the time. I will never ever forget the moment when it became so clear that he could easily have been me. In those days, fear constrained us like an imaginary prison, and troubling thoughts of potential brutality committed for no understandable reason were the bars.

Though I was surrounded by two loving parents, plenty of brothers, sisters and cousins, their love could not protect me from the unholy oppression waiting just outside that family circle. Unchecked, unrestrained violence and government-sanctioned terror had the power to turn a simple stroll to the store for some Skittles or an innocent morning jog down a lonesome country road into a nightmare. If we are to survive as one unified nation, we must discover what so readily takes root in our hearts that could rob Mother Emanuel Church in South Carolina of her brightest and best, shoot unwitting concertgoers in Las Vegas and choke to death the hopes and dreams of a gifted violinist like Elijah McClain.

Like so many young people today, I was searching for a way out, or some might say a way in, and then I heard the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on an old radio. He was talking about the philosophy and discipline of nonviolence. He said we are all complicit when we tolerate injustice. He said it is not enough to say it will get better by and by. He said each of us has a moral obligation to stand up, speak up and speak out. When you see something that is not right, you must say something. You must do something. Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part to help build what we called the Beloved Community, a nation and world society at peace with itself.

Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it.

You must also study and learn the lessons of history because humanity has been involved in this soul-wrenching, existential struggle for a very long time. People on every continent have stood in your shoes, through decades and centuries before you. The truth does not change, and that is why the answers worked out long ago can help you find solutions to the challenges of our time. Continue to build union between movements stretching across the globe because we must put away our willingness to profit from the exploitation of others.

Though I may not be here with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.

When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide."

John Robert Lewis (February 21st, 1940 - July 17th, 2020)

May he rest in perfect peace.

Music Throwback: De La Soul Hit It Big With "Me, Myself and I"

Me Myself and I (De La Soul song) - Wikipedia
Rap trio De La Soul went #1 in Netherlands in 1989.
(c) Wikipedia

Self-Love. Being proud of yourself. Independence.

If you exhibit those qualities, then De La Soul's "Me, Myself and I" is definitely your anthem.

As the 20th song on the hip hop trio's debut studio album,

Popular video games NCAA Football 06 and NBA Street Vol.3 introduced the song to a new generation by adding it to their game soundtracks in the mid 2000's.

The track is also widely known for sampling Funkadelic's "(Not Just) Knee Deep). George Clinton of the legendary funk music group of the 1970's was featured as a songwriter on "Me, Myself and I".

Other songwriters were of course De La Soul, DJ Prince Paul and Philippe Wynne.

Social Media Reacts As NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes Finishes #4 on NFL TOP 100

Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback has had a prolific start to his career. While only in his second season, he has become the youngest NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP ever, the fastest to 9,000 yards and 75 touchdowns.

Since Mahomes took over the Chiefs as their starting QB on the last week of the 2017 season, the team ranks first in points per game, offensive touchdowns and second in total yards per game.

His peers however do not feel that he is the top player in the game. According to the #NFLTOP100, a list voted by players, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Aaron Donald of the LA Rams and Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks were all ranked ahead of Mahomes.

Louis Riddick of ESPN said " Mahomes is 4?" while laughing on his twitter account.

A fan hilariously said "Four???? FOUR!?!?!?!? The top three better be 12 feet tall and have wings!!! Otherwise...bull puckey!!!

See the NFL network reaction show to this list down below.
