Hazel Dorothy Scott was born on this day in 1920 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.⁣

⁣After moving to New York City with her Mother at 4 years old, Scott's immense talent was recognized early as she received a scholarship to attend Juilliard at 8 years old.⁣
⁣
She became one of the most prominent Jazz and Classical singers & pianists of her generation who was known for being an outspoken critic against racial discrimination. As an actress, her role in improving the representation of Black people in film was tremendous.

In 1950, Scott became the first African American to host her own TV Show, 'The Hazel Scott Show'. ⁣
⁣She passed away of cancer on October 2nd, 1981 and is buried in Queens, New York next to fellow Jazz legends Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Johnny Hodges.⁣

Music Throwback: "Overnight Celebrity" - Twista

 

Twista was on fire in 2004 and after the release of "Slow Jams", the blaze continued with his next hit.

"Overnight Celebrity" was the second single from his Kamikaze album. The song was produced by Kanye West, music video directed by Erik White and also featured brilliant violinist Miri Ben-Ari.

The song peaked at #6 on the Billboard 100.

On This Day In 1937: Sylvan Goldman Introduced The Shopping Cart

On This Day In 1937, Businessman Sylvan Goldman introduced the world's first shopping cart at his Humpty Dumpty Supermarket chain in Oklahoma.

While he was at his office one late evening, Goldman saw two folding chairs and began to go forth with his idea of the shopping cart. With the assistance of Fred Young, one of his employees, he built the ideal model of a cart by having wheels at the bottom of chair legs and two metal baskets on top of another instead of a chair seat.

Initially, the product looked like a flop upon release until Goldman hired people to push the shopping cart around the store as if they were customers.

"ABBA" will be releasing 5 new songs in 2021.

Swedish Pop Group "ABBA" consisting of Benny Anderson, Anni-Frid Lygnstad, Agnetha Faltskog and Bjorn Ulvaeus released their classic single "I Have A Dream" on their sixth studio album Voulez-Vous in 1979. 

The song immediately became a hit sensation peaking in the top 3 of the charts in 9 countries.
