On this day in 2004, Spider-Man 2 was released in theaters grossing $40.4 million in its first day.
The film was directed by Sam Raimi and written by Alvin Sargent from a story by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Michael Chabon. Based on the fictional Marvel Comics character of the same name, it is the second installment in the Spider-Man trilogy and a sequel to 2002's Spider-Man film, starring Tobey Maguire alongside Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Alfred Molina, Rosemary Harris, and Donna Murphy.

On This Day in 2001, 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence' was released in movie theaters. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, Jake Thomas and Frances O'Connor.
With a budget of $100 million, the hit movie brought in $236 million at the box office. The movie was originally developed by Stanley Kubrick but was handed over to Spielberg in 1995. A.I was nominated for two Oscars, one for Best Original Score (John Williams) and Best Original Effects.
With a $15 million budget, "Trading Places" brought in $90 million at the box office.

The San Antonio Spurs won their third NBA title 16 years ago after overcoming the defending champion Detroit Pistons in a grueling seven games.
Tim Duncan's averages of 20.6 points, 14.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.1 blocks led him to being named the Finals MVP for the third time however in the gritty 81-74 Spurs win, it was Manu Ginobili who led the charge in the fourth quarter by scoring 11 of the team's 24 points.
Some such as former Spurs assistant coach Mike Budenholzer and General Manager RC Buford have made the case that he was just as deserving of the Finals MVP after averaging 19 points off the bench.

On This Day In 1990, Nelson Mandela visited Boston, Massachusetts as part of his United States tour. He would receive a thunderous and enormous welcome from Bostonians just four months after being released from the shackles of Robben Island Prison in South Africa.
After landing, he visited Madison Park High School before heading to the Kennedy Presidential Library with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and then Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
The future South African President was then greeted by close to 250,000 people on the Charles River Esplanade.
On This Day In 1893, George Washington Gale Ferris Jr.'s invention "The Ferris Wheel" made its debut at the World's Columbian Festival in Chicago, Illinois.
Gale Ferris Jr. was a structral engineer from Pittsburgh and after proposing the idea to Daniel Burnham with the intentions of it being a competitor to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the wheel was built.
1.4 million people paid 50 cents to enjoy a ride on The Ferris Wheel from 1893-1895.

"Joyful, Joyful" by the St. Francis Choir featuring Lauryn Hill is the eleventh track on 'Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit' soundtrack album that reached #74 on the Billboard 200 and #40 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart.
In the film, the song was performed by Rita Louise Watson (Lauryn Hill) and the choir while Ahmal (Ryan Toby) also accompanied the song with rap lyrics. The finale helped the choir win the competition and save the St. Francis Academy.

Today marks the 51st anniversary Brazil's triumph over Italy at the 1970 World Cup. With the 4-1 victory in Mexico City, Mexico at Estadio Azteca, the Brazilians became the first country to hoist the World Cup trophy three times surpassing two-time winners Italy and Uruguay.
Head Coach Mario Zagallo made history as the first person to become World Cup champion as a player and coach.
As for Pele, after a rough outing at the 1966 competition and vowing to never play another World Cup again, he return with great persuasion in 1970. While he dipped in athletic ability, his sharpness in the mind, technique and awareness proved vital.
While the greats Jairzinho (Scored in every game), Tostao, Rivelino and Carlos Alberto shined bright, it was Pele who ultimately made the decisive difference with his leadership and excellence that even resulted in the culminating goal at the final which is arguably the best goal in tournament history.
He would become the first person to win the World Cup three times.
